Team won city championship in 1995 (second in county); the team also went to Nationals for two years (Î94 & Î95).  Team won the County Conference Championship in 1996. A controversy in a rules violation by Rufus King High School (defending State Champions) lead to a mutual disqualification in which neither team went onto the National Championships as the 1996 MPS Representative.

First participated in 1995 (event: Public Address); won only meet that I attended (Wisconsin Lutheran HS, does not count sub-regionals or regionals); qualified for state and scored a perfect 25 to win gold medal. In 1996: Went to City Championships for first and only time,  took first place in public address; qualified for state and scored 23 of 25 for a silver medal finish.

In 1994-95 school year, a survey was given out to South Division High School students.  I was one of four people who tabulated it, and one of two people who presented it at a superintendents meeting and a system wide principals meeting.

Senior Year Note:
During my senior year of high school, I attended two classes (General Biology and Calculus) at Marquette University in place of high school courses for both semesters.  These are college entry level courses that freshmen usually take.  I am only the third student within the Milwaukee Public Schools history to do this and was featured in a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Article about high school students in college (May 2, 1996 Neighbors section cover story - at bottum of page).
Other Notes Of Importance:
I attended the Milwaukee German Immersion School for grades 1 through 5, and won a German dictionary in a Language Contest from them during high school.  I have had articles published in the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology's quarterly magazine, The Passenger Pigeon, in 1987 and 1992. During my senior year, I trouble shot the computers (IBM & Mac) in various school departments (South has at least 500-1000 computers); I was awarded an IBM computer from MPS for this.

Had I been born of parents of a higher social-economic class I believe my high school and life achievements would have been more . In fact, I have taken every math and science course at school through my four years there and took more at Marquette University.  I live and went  to school in the inner city of Milwaukee.  Poverty, dropping out of high school, gangs, drugs, guns, pregnancy, prison, and death are a way of life here.  In April 1996, a student was killed inside the school by another student.

College:
I am only the sixth person in my family to graduate from high school and the first to attend any type of post-secondary institute.  I will be attending the University of Wisconsin at Madison starting in June of 1996 for my undergraduate studies.
